Totally Serious Post: High School Girl Books!!!

28 Sep

9780061794698Taking a break (because it is Yom Kippur, day of self-denial and repentence) from mocking books to promoting them.

Do you like gossipy girls who worry about what to wear? Do you wish you had naturally curly hair and some tall, dark and handsome cool drink of water to swoon over? Do you worry about boys wanting to do more than you are ready for? Are your ladies always on hand for fun and trouble? Do you procrastinate and leave assignments until the last minute? And finally, do you love descriptions of food? If you answered yes to any of the above, you might be ripe for a Betsy-Tacy conversion.

The Betsy-Tacy series follows the delightful, realistic, down-to-earth, and funny Betsy Ray from the age of 5 until marriage at the beginning of the 20th century. Along with her friends, Betsy gets into trouble, dreams about her future career (she wants to be a writer), drools over boys, experiments with identity, and eats really good food. A good mix of quaint, old-fashioned fun with characters that stand the test of time and feel quite modern in their views and identities.

So, why the fuss? Maud Hart Lovelace might have written about Betsy eons ago, but she still feels real and relevant. Harper Collins, spearheaded by the amazing Jennifer Hart, is rereleasing what we crazy fans call the “high school books.” Following Betsy during her awkward years, these tomes will give you the scandal and fashion you desire from “Gossip Girl”, the romance of “Twilight” with a dash of “Little House on the Prairie” innocence. And lots of descriptions of salivatingly delicious food. Oh, the fudge is killing me already.

Oh yeah, and we are having a conversion contest. My religion forbids conversion, so this is my only shot at something like that. And my group is OUT TO WIN!

The awesome part: the first reader to post a comment about why they think my blog could save the world gets a free copy (for conversion purposes, you must read it and report back to me. No free lunches, kiddos) of “Heaven to Betsy”/”Betsy in Spite of Herself.”

So funny–when reading your post I accidentally read it this way:

    >Harper Collins, speared by the amazing Jennifer Hart, is >rereleasing what we crazy fans call the “high school books.”

–And I thought, man, that Jennifer, she is really committed. And no wonder they agreed to rereleasing the books!
